How to judge plumbing work
Most plumbing emergencies are the visible end of a slow problem: a supply line that has been weeping behind drywall, a water heater whose anode rod gave up years ago, or a drain line that has been narrowing with scale. The value of a good plumber is largely in catching the slow version before it becomes the loud one.
Water pressure, pipe material and water chemistry interact more than most homeowners expect. Hard water shortens fixture life; pressure above roughly 80 psi stresses every joint in a house. Asking what a plumber measures — not just what they replace — is a fair way to judge one.
| Component | Typical service interval | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Water heater flush | Annually | Sediment reduces efficiency and shortens tank life |
| Anode rod check | 2–4 years | A spent rod moves corrosion to the tank itself |
| Supply hoses (washer) | Replace every 5 years | Burst hoses are a leading cause of water damage |
| Main shutoff exercise | Annually | A seized valve turns a small leak into a large one |
| Drain line inspection | As symptoms appear | Slow drains often precede a full blockage |
What customers say
I can't recommend Gunther Plumbing enough! They came out to fix a plumbing issue that had been left behind by a previous contractor, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. They thoroughly scoped the drain and, instead of immediately recommending an expensive repair, took the time to properly diagnose the problem. They discovered that we didn't need to replace the entire pipe, which saved us a significant amount of money. They also found a blockage that had apparently been there since the house was originally built. The team was professional, knowledgeable, and incredibly courteous. They explained everything clearly, communicated throughout the process, and completed the work quickly without cutting corners. It's refreshing to work with a company that's honest and focused on finding the right solution instead of the most expensive one. If you need a plumber you can trust, I highly recommend Gunther Plumbing!

Gunther responded to my email on a holiday weekend, and I made clear it wasn't an emergency. They got someone out Monday afternoon. And he didn't even charge me because we can't locate a leak at this time and all looks dry and might be from a neighboring condo. They will definitely be my first call for all my future plumbing concerns based on my first experience with them!

Call (614) 580-9406Gunther Plumbing has been fantastic to work with! We’ve had them at our home several times over the past year to fix separate issues. Their plumber, Mike, is always professional, courteous, and efficient. He is extremely knowledgeable and does a great job explaining what the work entails. I will never use another plumbing company and have recommended them to many people!
